Care Profile: Gabrielle
Catastrophic auto accident victim
A team from HealthCall began to work with Gabrielle, her family, and her physician following a very serious auto accident. The accident left Gabrielle with multiple injuries including a traumatic brain injury that changed nearly every aspect of how she managed her life. A concussion caused short-term memory loss. A fractured pelvis, fractured femur, multiple fractured ribs, and a fractured spine left Gabrielle with very little independence.
Initially, HealthCall provided skilled nurse visits including medication set-ups, blood draws and PICC line dressing changes. Today, Gabrielle lives in a single family home. A home health aide helps with ambulation, transfers, toileting, light housekeeping, and transportation. She overcame a major challenge recently when she was able to stand bearing her full weight. The next goal she’s set for herself is to walk with just a cane and use her wheelchair for longer distances only.
Gabrielle’s family and friends have seen a dramatic improvement in her self-confidence. Her endurance is greater and she grows steadily more self-assured about performing activities of daily living. Most importantly, she’s becoming more comfortable when out in the community as she learns a new way of navigating her world.
